Important Points of Note:

There are different types of naturalization, each with different conditions.

Normal Naturalization: General foreign nationals are eligible for normal naturalization (Ex: Born overseas, studied in Japan and remained in Japan to work after graduation, etc.). There are seven conditions for this type of naturalization including domicile, capabilities, conduct, living expenses, denaturalization, ideology and Japanese language ability

Simple Naturalization: Special permanent residents (certain South Korean and Korean-peninsula residents in Japan) and foreign nationals married to Japanese citizens are eligible for this type of naturalization. The conditions are relaxed or exempted compared to normal naturalization.
